- Place the sliced apples in a saucepan over medium heat.
- Add water or apple juice, sugar/maple syrup, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Stir well, cover the pan, and simmer for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Once the apples are soft and lightly caramelized, remove from heat.
- Let them rest for 5 minutes before serving warm or storing.
